Week 15: Documentary Edit (Rock Climber) Brief

In Friday's session Chris went through the brief for the next assessment task:

Brief 2:
DOCUMENTARY EDIT (ROCK CLIMBER)
To be undertaken in pairs
Length: 4.30 – 5.00
Structure a clear narrative with the material supplied
Establish an empathy with the character
Effective and considered use of voiceover
Creative implementation of sound design
Develop your technical, creative and collaborative skills

For this project my partner is Alex Rhule-Martin.


A major part of the task is to tidy up the project that we had inherited.  My dad taught me a that the first step in approaching any job is to take time to do the proper required preparation: assess the situation, make a plan, tidy your workspace, list your equipment and resources, identify any requirements, make sure you have the correct tools for the job, review your progress, have a contingency plan and try your best to do a good job.

After Chris explained the brief Alex and I started to go through the Final Cut sequence that we had been provided with, and the subclips to see what footage had been used, and what footage was available.

We identified the various aspects of the sequence and looked at how we would like to rearrange the sequence.

To see what footage was available and to review what footage hadn't been used in the sequence, we began to label the subclips with descriptive names and arrange / categorise the clips and audio files.

Reviewing all the clips also made us aware of the content of each clip so we are mindful of content when considering the mood of the piece and continuity issues.
