In this session Chris went through the progress of each team in their Night Journey task.
Bex and I had made a considered effort when it came to preparing / logging / labelling our shots cut from the rushes. We indicated the files were without audio, organised them into bins and titled our sequence accordingly.
In reviewing the rough cuts of the films Chris made the following points to note:
Importance of labelling
Effective and considered use of voice over
Consideration to pacing and characterisation
Script is a suggestion and doesn't have to be adhered to
Get rid of thumbnails on timeline (using Sequence tab)
Don't need wave forms displayed in timeline clips
Protagonist should be shown early
First few seconds of film should be engaging but not contain the vital hook as audience may still be settling and miss it
My favourite clip shown was the group who used the station concourse and escalators footage with 'What do you see?' voice over. I thought this worked really well in setting the scene.
Chris also showed us a handy tip to convert separate clips into the same aspect ration in bulk: double click Motion tab and use Distort option to set desired aspect ratio. Once set, select all clips and Change Attribute click distort option (set at ratio).
